There are many stress myths bouncing around out there, and what you don't know about stress can hurt you. Here are six of the most common myths about stress you should know so you can create and execute an intelligent stress management program.

1. MYTH: Everyone Reacts To Stress In The Same Ways: You react to stress in a unique manner. Yes, stress causes symptoms that many people share, but your cluster of stress reactions is unique to you. You need to know this stress profile to devise the best strategic plan to deal with the stress in your life.

2. MYTH: Successful People Have Little Or No Stress: It is a myth that people with lots of money or high achievement have little stress. Stress hits everyone. It's just that some people manage it better.

3. MYTH: It Is Obvious When Someone Is Experiencing Stress: Stress can be silent and not very obvious. There are many symptoms that lie under the surface.

4. MYTH: Some Stress Reduction Techniques Work For Everyone: There are no universal stress reduction approaches that work for everyone. That's why you need to see a specialist to discover what works best for you.

5. MYTH: Only People With Higher Responsibilities Have Stress: Anyone, at any level of work or life responsibilities can become stressed.

6. MYTH: The More Hours You Work, The More Stress You Will Have: People who love what they do handle stress better than those who dread going into the office. The difference is not the hours worked, but their attitude.

If there is a bottom line about stress, it is this: everyone gets stressed, and everyone needs a plan to handle and buffer this stress. Now you know some major myths about stress. I encourage you to discover how stress hits you, and what you can do to take smart steps in handling it so you can have the life you deserve.
