Ten Job Interview Problems And Solutions – Strategies For Solving Critical Job Interview Problems.    In my job interview coaching practice I see many clients come in to my office befuddled beyond measure as to why they are not getting call-backs after interviews. They are baffled, at least, until I give them my feedback about job interview problems including their interview style, their manners, their fidgeting tics, their patterns and their lack of personal awareness of how to run a successful interview. Once they receive this feedback, they easily adjust what they are doing and stop making needless basic errors that kill the job interviews. This article lists ten job interview problems, with a quick fix strategy for each one.    526 words.

Here we go.

  • Job Interview Problem #1: Your vocal volume is weak, and it makes you sound passive.
Solution: Practice speaking so loudly you think you are almost yelling. Then back off to a slightly lower volume. That is probably the correct volume.

  • Job Interview Problem #2: You slouch and seem lifeless.
Solution: Sit up ramrod straight, out on the edge of your chair. Now settle in slightly, but stay on the chair's edge. That is where you want to be for real.

  • Job Interview Problem #3: You forget the interviewer's name.
Solution: Ask for their business card.

  • Job Interview Problem #4: You forget what to say.
Solution: Shift your seating position and ask for clarification of the question to gain time to think.

  • Job Interview Problem #5: Over-explaining your answers.
Solution: Shorter answers are better. Have an "A answer" that is to the point, and a "B answer" in reserve, that goes deeper, just in case.

  • Job Interview Problem #6: You come across as trying to please too much.
Solution: Don't ask the interviewer if you "answered the question" or if they "need to know more". If they need more they will ask.

  • Job Interview Problem #7: You sound rehearsed.
Solution: Pause longer before answering, and place pauses as if you are searching for a word, even though you know exactly what you are going to say.

  • Job Interview Problem #8: Your technology gets in the way.
Solution: Keep Bluetooth and earpieces in your pocket. Turn your cell off and put it away, not on the desk. Don't even put your cell on buzz. It WILL go off.

  • Job Interview Problem #9: You feel the urge to interrupt or correct the interviewer.
Solution: Do this only if you don't want the job.

  • Job Interview Problem #10: You forget what is on your resume.
Solution: Always review your resume immediately prior to any interview. Bring extra copies in case the interviewer does not have one. Have it out as the interview begins.

Many strategies for being a smart interviewee are so complex and so esoteric you could never think them up on your own. Others are bordering on common sense, but it is good to be reminded of the basics. Now that you have seen how a savvy interviewee handles contingencies, you have the formula for being in control. What is it? Plan ahead for all job interview problems.
