Preparing for an interview is not difficult, but
it does take an eye for detail. That's why you need interviewing
skills training that is targeted at very specific, granular strategies
aimed at overcoming the interviewing roadblocks put in your way
by the situation. Here are five interviewing skills training tips
that give you the inside story about how to prepare for an interview
and perform like a pro once you get there.
Interviewing Skills Training Tips
- Read the job description and write your resume to reflect
everything they are asking for in the position. Do this and
you automatically answer the question, "Will they think I am a
good fit?" You will be.
- Make sure you are sensitive to personal cultural and company
cultural differences with the interviewer. This is critical
so you don't appear socially awkward and obtuse.
- Use your emotional intelligence skills to read the interviewer
and adapt to that person. This will help the interviewer feel
comfortable and help you build rapport.
- Smile during the interview at least two times. Once
when you first greet the interviewer, and once when you shake
hands to leave. Do that and you dramatically increase your odds
of being liked. Smiling shows you are friendly, can get along
with people and that you are enthusiastic about the position.
- Now is not the time to be overly humble. You don't want
to come across as an arrogant, narcissistic jerk either, but simply
laying low and hoping that the interviewer sees how great you
are just won't work. You have to explicitly tell them how you
can fit the exact bill for the job offered.
Now that you know these five interviewing skills
training insights and strategies I know you will be feeling more
confident in how you prepare and perform. Remember, you gain confidence
from your competence. And your competence is a direct reflection
of the quality, length and depth of your preparation. Work hard
now and you will smile when you get in the interview.
